APPLE LAPTOP BATTERY PRODUCT RECALL

Apple logoFollowing Dell's decision to recall 4.1m laptop batteries, Apple computers are now recalling 1.8m batteries used in their laptop computers.

The recall affects the iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 models sold between October 2003 and August 2006. The recall does NOT affect the latest MacBook and MacBook Pro range of notebooks.

A statement from Apple said, "We discovered that some Sony batteries in previous models of PowerPC-based iBooks and PowerBooks do not meet Apple's standards for safety and performance".

This latest recall was initiated after Apple received nine complaints from users reporting overheating batteries.

Approx. 1.1m batteries are affected in laptops sold in the US with a further 700,000 sold elsewhere.

Apple have launched a website telling customers how to check their existing batteries and how
to obtain a free replacement at https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/

Users of affected laptops are advised to remove the battery from the machine and only run the machine using the mains power cable.
